At Home Bankruptcy Expands: Michigan Now on Store Closure List
As home goods retailer At Home navigates its bankruptcy filing, the list of store closures is expanding — and now includes Michigan.
At Home's Initial Bankruptcy Filing
Earlier this summer, we reported that At Home initially planned to shutter about 20 underperforming stores nationwide following its mid-June bankruptcy filing. At that time, Michigan shoppers breathed a sigh of relief as local locations appeared to be unaffected by the impending closures.
But as of early August, the scope of closures has widened. The retailer has increased the total to 30 stores across 15 states, and Michigan has now been added to that list, with a location in Ypsilanti set to close by the end of September.

- ▶️ Update: Two locations later removed from the closure list.
- ▶️ Aug. 1, 2025: Six more stores added; list grows to 30 closures across 15 states.
- ▶️ Michigan impact: Ypsilanti added to the list, with the store slated to close by the end of September 2025.
At Home in Michigan
The Texas-based retailer operates roughly 260 stores nationwide, with several locations here in the Great Lakes State. Michigan shoppers can find At Home in cities including Saginaw, Wixom, Bloomfield Hills, Ypsilanti, Troy, Utica, Roseville, Georgetown Township, and Kalamazoo.
Why Is At Home Closing Stores?
At Home filed for bankruptcy on June 16, 2025, citing nearly $2 billion in debt and the challenges of rising tariffs and shifting trade conditions. Under new management, the retailer began trimming underperforming locations — first announcing 26 closures, later expanding the total to 30 stores scheduled to shut down by the end of September.
Stores slated to close are holding clearance events with discounts of up to 30% on merchandise, fixtures, and equipment. All sales are final, and gift cards were only honored through mid-August.
