Governor Whitmer Pledges to Fix the Damn Potholes
Overtime has been approved and MDOT has been given an executive directive by the Governor to make pothole repairs its first priority this spring in Michigan.
Governor Whitmer just said out loud what everyone who drives in Michigan has been thinking:
Dealing with car damage from driving over potholes while on your way to work or school is frustrating for every Michigander. No family should have to spend their hard-earned money on repairing a flat tire or a broken axle caused by these potholes.
State Transportation Director Paul C. Ajegba agrees.
Potholes are dangerous and damage vehicles. The way to prevent this is to continue fixing the roads and bridges the right way the first time. Consistent with this Executive Directive, MDOT will use all the resources at our disposal, including overtime and contracted services, to repair them.
The Executive Directive he is speaking of is one signed by Governor Whitmer on March 2 promising to fix the damn potholes.
That’s why I’m directing the state transportation department to speed up pothole repairs. We’re kicking this into overdrive, using overtime pay and contractors to get the job done, while we continue broader improvement projects across the state. I will continue to work with anyone to fix the damn roads, make long-lasting investments in our infrastructure, and put Michigan first.
So, what roads will be fixed? The executive directive applies to state trunklines in Michigan. State trunklines are the highways and roads with an "M" prefix. Interstates and major highways named "I' and "US" are covered under different funding, but this latest effort to endorse overtime and fix the damn potholes should lessen the impact (pun intended) of your commute.
