Here's the latest on Covid-19 outbreaks in schools here in Southwest Michigan.

Both Mattawan and Vicksburg have put students and staff in quarantine to prevent an outbreak after one person in each school tested positive for Covid-19.  School officials are working with their local health departments to track down anyone that had contact with the infected people.  You can see press releases from both Vicksburg and Mattawan High schools provided by WWMT by clicking here.

Meanwhile, 6 new schools in Southwest Michigan have reported outbreaks.

Three schools in Kent County: Rockford High School in Rockford (4 confirmed cases), Grand Rapids Community College (2 confirmed cases) and Cornerstone University Grand Rapids (2 confirmed cases.)

Two Schools in Ottawa County: Park Elementary School in Hudsonville (7 confirmed cases) and Heritage Christian School in Hudsonville (7 confirmed cases.)

One School in Kalamazoo County: Galesburg-Augusta Primary School (5 confirmed cases.)

That brings us to 88 outbreaks statewide according to WWMT,

Statewide, there have been 88 outbreaks--impacting almost 5,000 students and staff, including an outbreak at Western Michigan University--first reported last week-- that is now impacting more than 600 people.

As of October 6th, 2020, Michigan is averaging 885 new daily Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths per day over the last 7 days.  We are currently seeing the highest infection rates in our state since May.
