Do NOT Send A Christmas Card To A Recovering Soldier!
Your Christmas Card "To Any Wounded Soldier" Will Be Returned...
I was so excited when I found an opportunity to send a wounded soldier a holiday card letting them know that I am thinking of them this holiday season.
Then, I discovered that the program I was responding to has been shut down. Snopes.com posted...
"Walter Reed Army Medical Center officials want to remind those individuals who want to show their appreciation through mail to include packages and letters, addressed to “Any Wounded Soldier” that Walter Reed will not be accepting these packages in support of the decision by then Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Transportation Policy in 2001. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well being of patients and staff at medical centers throughout the Department of Defense."
So where can I send my card? According to everything I have read, we need to contact our local Red Cross and they will have suggestions on how we can send our best wishes to our American Forces.
Merry Christmas and Thank You to everyone who keeps us safe!
