Beacon Kalamazoo Emergency Department Renovation Aims to Improve Patient Flow
You walk through the doors and immediately notice how bright and modern the space feels. Clear signage points you exactly where you need to go. An experienced nurse greets you, does a brief assessment and you know exactly what happens next.
This is what you'll find in Beacon Kalamazoo's newly renovated emergency department, a complete transformation that replaces the 1990s-era design with a space built for efficient, compassionate care.
Depending on the severity of your symptoms, you are placed into one of two pathways, tailored specifically for your needed level of care.
Critical patients, those with heart attacks, strokes, or major trauma, are directed to one care pathway, while patients with minor illnesses and injuries are directed to a dedicated minor care suite. This area features its own triage, exam rooms, and results-pending area.
"This will significantly decrease the wait time to be seen, which is one of the primary goals of any ER and one of the biggest factors contributing to an overall excellent patient experience," says Dr. Mark Miller, Chief of Emergency Medicine at Beacon Kalamazoo.
Both pathways working simultaneously, allowing the department to provide appropriate care for every patient who walks through the doors.
As a Level II Trauma Center, Beacon Kalamazoo handles the full spectrum of emergencies. This renovation ensures the facility matches the expertise of the team inside, and positions Beacon Kalamazoo as southwest Michigan's trusted partner when you need emergency care.
