Just like everything else this year, college football in Michigan is topsy-turvy. While Michigan and Michigan State have struggled most of this season, the Western Michigan Broncos are undefeated, and only thanks to some overtime heroics by the Wolverines, do the Broncos not have more wins this year as the big boys combined.

Saturday, before an essentially empty Waldo Stadium, they will attempt to stay that way when they welcome Eastern Michigan at 2 pm. The game is on ESPN +.

The scary part about this is this has all the makings of a trap game. Western is 4-0. Eastern is 0-4. Yes, trap game is written all over it. No doubt, coach Tim Lester and staff are conveying that same warning to the team. Take nothing for granted, and don't be over-confident.

One of the things to look for is whether wide receiver and kick returner D'Wayne Eskridge can return a second kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. That's what he did against Northern Illinois this past Saturday, helping the Broncos win 30-27, and it earn Eskridge his first MAC special teams player of the week honors.

On defense, the Broncos will attempt to make it three weeks in a row with at least four quarterback sacks. Linebacker Treshaun Heyward continues to impress, leading the team in tackles, with his name mentioned for post-season individual accolades, as in the Butkus and Nagurski Awards for best linebacker and best defensive player, respectively.

After tomorrow's game, the Broncos wrap up the pandemic shortened season with a trip to Muncie to play Ball State next Saturday.
