There is a hidden gem in the small village of Nottawa that may be home to the largest ice cream cone in the entire state of Michigan. Dubbed "Home of the Big Cone," The Sand Lake Party Store is like walking into a different universe. You'd never expect a party store to have over 40 different kinds of sausages, all sorts of meats, pizza, burgers, fried food and more, but they are a go to stop when passing nearby. Their shop located at 25595 M-86, Nottawa, MI 49075 also features an ice cream parlor that rotates all 75 flavors of Hendersonville cream, allowing 44 available selections at a time.

There are 5 different size ice cream cones you can get:

  • Kiddy – 1 scoop
  • Baby – 2 scoops
  • Just Enough – 3 scoops
  • Enough – 4 scoops
  • Bellyache – 5 scoops

The big dog out of all of these is the Bellyache, and as you can see below, the advertised "5 scoops" is a little bit misleading:

They absolutely mound a mountain of ice cream in a plastic take-out tub and attach your choice of regular cone, waffle cone, waffle bowl, or just a bowl as you attempt to eat your entire daily calorie count in one sitting. I don't know of any other place that has a cone with this size or this much amount.

Unfortunately, they are currently having an issue finding people to work the ice cream parlor, and are temporarily closed. their normal ice cream season runs from April 1st until October 1st, so lets hope they find some workers before summer.
