There are are so many reasons why gumbo is one of the perfect winter foods. First off, it's spicy which heats everything up. It's also really filling and you can make a large batch of it to last you for days. J Gumbos in Kalamazoo is usually the go to spot in Kalamazoo for Gumbo. While it lasts too, you can also get $7 of free food with them, but that won't last very long, so jump on it. That may be the best way to get your gumbo fix for now, as Louie's has had to postpone their 16th annual Gumbo Cook-off & Crawfish Boil. They dropped the news yesterday on their Facebook, explaining:

The end of February at Louie’s is usually a time of fun, friends, music and GUMBO, all for a great cause. We want this annual event to get the full attention, planning & attendance it deserves. Due to the ever-present Covid-19 pandemic Louie’s will be postponing the 16th annual Gumbo Cook-off & Crawfish Boil until later in the year when we can safely host this event. Thank you all so much for your participation years previous. We very much look forward to bringing Kalamazoo the GUMBO you know and love at a later date in 2021.

It's good to know that although our local restaurants are struggling, they're doing everything to keep us safe. People are already looking forward to the event when it can happen safely.
