"At high level, I'm a local guy, rallying other local guys, just trying to make an impact we can SEE and FEEL right here in our own backyard." Those are the words Cody Livingston, a member of Guys Who Give, used to described briefly what the Kalamazoo organization is all about. But it's when you deep dive into the group you see the impact that can be made when a community comes together to support one another.

The group of is made up of likeminded men from the Kalamazoo community who come together for 1 hour, once a quarter to make a positive impact in their community. These days, especially as husbands and fathers, life can be so busy with work and families that it can be difficult to do all the charitable things they have done in the past or wish they could do. The entire idea of Guys Who Give is to maximize the impact while minimizing effort.

How To Be A Part of The Charity

As part of the program, the guys commit to one hour, once a quarter to pool resources with 100+ men and make real impact on a local nonprofit. At the quarterly events, members can nominate a local nonprofit (must be a 501c3 who serves Kalamazoo County) to be considered that night. GWG draws 3 from a hat and the nominating member gets up to 5 minutes to tell the group about the organization or why they're passionate about it. Nominations for the event are not pre-determined so it's an even playing field.

Livingston says the whole process is "just guys speaking from the heart." They then vote to choose one who will become the quarter's recipient and everyone writes a $100 check or jumps on their website to make a $100 contribution digitally. When they have 100 or more guys commit to do this, they're dropping a random $10,000+ donation on a local nonprofit right here in the Kalamazoo area.

Upcoming Donation Event

Their Q3 event is taking place at Revel & Roll West from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. the evening of August 11th and marks their 4 year anniversary. Future meeting dates are listed on their site, and those who want to donate at the event just need a check for $100, which will go directly to a non profit. All the details of the event can be found here.
