The iconic Beatles song 'All You Need Is Love' is on the marquee at the historic Kalamazoo State Theatre, sharing a message of love during troubled times.

John and Paul (and sometimes George) say the word "love" almost 50 times in just three-minutes and fifty-one seconds of "All You Need Is Love," the classic 1967 Beatles song. We could use just as much caring and compassion today. The theater, closed for the time being as so many live-event venues are, is challenging others to share the message in large letters for all to see.

"All You Need Is Love" is a perfect choice, not only because of its simple message but for the origin of the song. According to Songfacts.com,

The concept of the song was born out of a request to bring a song that was going to be understood by people of all nations. The writing began in late May of 1967, with John and Paul working on separate songs. It was decided that John's "All You Need Is Love" was the better choice because of its easy to understand message of love and peace. The song was easy to play, the words easy to remember and it encompassed the feeling of the world's youth during that period.

We could use some of that today.
