Usually around the holiday season, people are in a very giving mood.

I for one am very appreciative of all that I have in my life, and around the holidays I'm reminded that there are others who may not have as much in their lives. I like to give back to those who might need help, as many people do.

Giving This Holiday Season

Thanksgiving day in particular, people like to donate their time, money, or goods to soup kitchens, food banks, and food pantries.

Dry goods and pantry items are always loved and appreciated. They tend to have a longer shelf life and can be stored without refrigeration, making them an easy item to donate.

And while pantry items like soups, mac and cheese, and canned vegetables are great items to give, there are some items that a food bank would love to receive that it rarely does.

Items to Donate to Food Banks

Take a look through the list below and learn about 16 items that Michigan food banks would absolutely love to receive this holiday season that they rarely get. Click here to learn more about how you can donate to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

Also, before donating anything that needs refrigeration, be sure to check with the food bank to see if they have the equipment needed to keep said items cold.

19 Things You Cannot Donate to Goodwill in Michigan

As you begin your spring cleaning and set aside items you no longer want, you may think about donating them to Goodwill. Before you box them up for donation, double-check that those items are actually something that Goodwill accepts. Things like gently used clothes and books are great. However, Goodwill will not accept things like large appliances and car parts. Check out the whole list of things Goodwill doesn't accept, below.
