Start 2024 With The Best Donut Shop in Michigan
We're all bummed we have to be back at work, but at least that means there's a regular supply of donuts again for the workplace... well... for some workplaces at least.
But maybe you want to start the year off on a good foot with your fellow coworkers, and bring in a dozen donuts that will make them remember you until the end of December. Fear not, the best Donut shop and bakery in Michigan was just named.
"Love Food" just released their top donuts in every state. Each year, they tally the votes from their readers, and find where the people are flocking for the best morning pastries.
Sadly, this year, west Michiganders will have to take a road trip for this year's top donut spot, as the Apple Fritter Donut Shop in Ferndale (northern suburb of Detroit) was named, not only the best donut shop in Michigan, but also apparently has the best Donut in Michigan.
It's a family-owned spot, and is named for it signature fritters, but surprisingly, it's not the apple fritters that people are flocking for... it's the blueberry fritters. Instead of the traditional apples, blueberries are put in the mix. Then, once they're fried, they've covered in a maple syrup glaze with blueberries that will literally melt in your mouth.
One thing that apparently visitors like is that the flavors of these donuts and fritters are baked right into the donuts, and not just poured over the top in frosting and toppings, or a glaze.
Other Regional Donut Champions
Of course, we've got other states around us, like Illinois, whose top donut spot is called Firecakes in Chicago. They have five locations that serve up something you'd think you'd only find at a minor league baseball game - a donut ice cream sandwich.
In Indiana, you have Long's Bakery holding down the title in Indianapolis with their simple, yet decadent yeast glazed donuts, all made by hand.
And lastly, in Ohio, take a trip to Brewnuts, who serves both donuts AND beer. their signature, though, is a maple bacon donut. Pair that with a little hair of the dog from the night before, and you've got yourself a heck of a day ahead of you.
What do you think? Did they get it right, or is there a different, BETTER donut shop you prefer in any of these states?
