There will forever be a debate as to which style of pizza is the best. But recently, a new state has entered into the chat, and it is picking fights with some of the big dogs of pizza making, and I don’t think it’s going to end well for them.
The state of Connecticut recently launched a new marketing campaign from the Connecticut State Office of Marketing and Tourism, and it took aim at not only Detroit-style pizza, but also Chicago and New York styles as well.

There’s apparently a welcoming sign at the state line with New York that says “Welcome to Connecticut: Home of the Pizza Capital of the United States. “
Now that’s no big problem considering that we have no slice in the fight, so to speak. However, it wasn’t just New York that their campaigns targeted; it was also Michigan. In fact, there were four separate ads that take payment at Detroit-style Pizza. Here’s what they say:
  • “Hey Detroit, stick to cars & music leave the pizza to us”
  • Muscle cars & Motown. That’s all You. The nation’s best. That’s us”
  • “The Nations Best Pizza Not, You Detroit”
  • “Cheesy. Thick. Pan-Baked. That’s not pizza. It’s casserole with confidence.”
The one thing I will say is, they are at least giving us the ability to leave feedback about the messages by prompting people to call them and leave a message on whether they agree or disagree with Connecticut claims that they have the superior pizza, at 844–2 87–4992, or you can leave feedback at betterpizzainct.com. Here was my feedback:
Y'all really used those images and trashed Michigan's pizza? Your pizza looks like it was reanimated in a lab using lesser slices of pizza.
