Excuse me...what in the world is a Hot Dog Walk?

Scrolling through Facebook, I found a post from a friend sharing details about an upcoming 'Hot Dog Walk'. Beer crawls I've heard of...but hot dogs? Like...do you just go around eating hot dogs??

It turns out I'm the one late to the party because this will be the 11th annual Hot Dog Walk in Kalamazoo. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic the event will once again be virtual. Those who sign up will receive coupons for participating restaurants to enjoy through the year or all at once. Whatever you'd like!

From what I've read and heard, in years past people would pile onto a school bus and, in a similar fashion as beer crawls, stop by local restaurants and enjoy a hot dog. The thought of that gives me heartburn but it's all for a great cause!

Proceeds from the 2021 virtual Hot Dog Walk will benefit Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes, an organization that has been working hard to provide food for locals in need. In fact, I recently wrote an article about their free food distribution:

While that date may have passed, KLF conducts food distributions on the 3rd Friday of every month. And with last years proceeds, the Kalamazoo Hot Dog Walk was able to raise enough for 21,000 meals.

If you'd like to participate, you have one more week to register. The deadline is May 6th. In fact, the Kalamazoo Hot Dog Walk is encouraging people to sign up with a little contest of their own. Check it out here.

If you'd like to stay up to date you can follow them on Facebook or visit their website for registration.
