Near Midland Michigan sits a slightly hidden but gorgeous little home that's covered in mosaic artwork.

Mosaics, or pictures put together using small, colorful, hard materials like tile, are some of my favorite pieces of art. I can throw some paint on a canvas, sure. But, seeing a vision come to life using tiny chunks of tile? Absolutely incredible.

Imagine my delight when I discovered that there's a home covered in mosaics in Michigan. In the Facebook group, Abandoned, Old and Interesting Places in Michigan, a woman named Tawnya Kokx posted a series of photos of a home she found, at random, while out playing Pokemon-Go.

It turns out, the home is the John Pratt Mosaic House and comes with a somewhat heartbreaking backstory.

The John Pratt Mosaic House

According to becreative360.org, the home belonged to the man it's named after, John Pratt. Pratt was an artist who dealt with paranoid schizophrenia which led him to retreat from the world around the middle of his life. Through encouragement, he found his way back to art and began transforming the exterior of his home.

Pratt passed in 1997 but, in their care, Creative 360 is offering in person tours for $5. Group tours are also available. Keep in mind, things may change due to the ongoing pandemic. But, if you have any interest in taking a tour of the John Pratt Mosaic House you can call 989-837-1885.

Creative 360 is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to community arts and wellness. Their vision is to make creativity accessible to all. Read more about their organization here.

If You Happen to Stop By...

Like with any property, abandoned or not, make sure that you have permission to be there and that you're respectful of the property. The original poster, Tawnya Kokx put it perfectly when she captioned her post with,

Please be respectful as I know all of you would be. Take only pictures and leave with nothing but love like us.
