Do Our Great Lakes Have Dolphins Living In Them?
Rumors are swirling about the idea that dolphins, whales and sharks are in out Great Lakes. What does live there will surprise you
For years people have talked about the legend of the great Loch Ness Monster Nessie, now there is talk of dolphins, whales and sharks swimming in Michigan lakes. Is it possible that these amazing animals could be dwelling in our waters? A very exciting thought, but the answer is no.
Upon a stringent search I found the truth about dolphins or whales in our great lakes from Seagrant.umn.edu. The truth: There are no whales, no dolphins or sharks, and no squid in the Great Lakes.
But...did you know that in our Great Lakes we do have relatives of sea fairing creatures! If you know where to look you could run into...
- Freshwater jellyfish
- Freshwater sponges
- Freshwater shrimp (distantly related to edible shrimp).
I would be thrilled and a little freaked out if I saw any of those swimmers in the lake. No Nessie (obviously), whales, sharks or dolphins live in our lakes.
