Arby's beat national favorite McDonald's to win Michigan's favorite fast food french fries. The best fries in the state are in Kalamazoo.

They say the oil doesn't give you the munchies, but it is CBD manufacturer and distributor Spruce that did a study on the favorite fast food fries by state. "We looked at Google Trends search results to analyze the popularity of 24 different fast food chains’ fries and also looked into the search results around different types of fries, like curly, waffle or even chili cheese. We then looked at the data state by state and crunched some numbers to find out the most popular fast food fries around the nation.

It's not hard to guess the overall winner of McDonald's, but why does Michigan love Arby's so much?

The slogan is "we have the meats," but it is Arby's curly fries that are the most beloved in the Mitten and nearby Indiana and Ohio. Minnesota is the only other state preferring Arby's over all the rest. We'll talk local in a moment, but first, here are the national chains that got the most votes:

  • McDonald's 16
  • Burger King 6
  • Taco Bell 6
  • Arby's 4
  • Popeye's 4
  • Five Guys 2
  • Jack in the Box 2
  • Wendy's 2
  • Bojangles 1
  • Checkers/Rally's 1
  • Chic-fil-A 1
  • Culver's 1
  • Dairy Queen 1
  • Sonic 1
  • Steak Shack 1
  • Steak & Shake 1
  • Whataburger 1

Five Guys only won two states, but they get my vote for best franchise fries. (Although, I do love that Burger King always puts that one onion ring in the fries, don't you?)

The best fries in Michigan are not at franchise restaurants, but right here at local businesses in Kalamazoo. You haven't had the best fries around until you've had them Nonla style or tried the pickle fries at Burger Bros. Made fresh and served hot every time, you can't beat 'em.
