Finally some good news. The road construction nightmare that 2015 has been, will get a little less bad.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) said Stadium Drive at U.S. 131 in Kalamazoo will open on Thursday.

The timing is good as lots of folks will be traveling for Labor Day Weekend, and, of course, there's the WMU/MSU football game on Friday.

Construction started in April 2014 with the reconstruction of the Stadium Drive intersection with Drake Road. Over two construction seasons, MDOT says it invested $23.5 million to rebuild that intersection and the Stadium Drive bridge over US-131.

The new single-point urban interchange (SPUI) configuration is the same design used at the I-94 interchange with Westnedge Avenue in Portage. The elimination of the loop ramps and weave/merge lanes will improve safety and traffic flow at the U.S. 131 interchange at Stadium Drive.
