The 86th Annual Mudbowl is going to messy this year

For years the fraternities at the University of Michigan have been getting down and dirty while raising money for charity. The Michigan Mudbowl club  is a nonprofit and voluntary UM student organization comprised of former SAE members and non-Greek students has taken over organizing the annual clash.

This year’s game pits the Fiji fraternity – Phi Gamme Delta – against Phi Kappa Psi, which was the winner of last year’s Mudbowl.

Mlive explained the history behind the Mudbowl...

Dating back to the 1930s, the game used to traditionally pit the Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Phi Delta Theta fraternities against each other. Phi Delta Theta’s operations were suspended in the late 1990s, however, and the fraternity had not competed in the finals of the tournament since its operations picked back up in 2017. During those decades it became perhaps the most visible spectacle of Greek Life at UM.

This year’s clash is Saturday, Oct. 26, at the former Sigma Alpha Epsilon property, 1408 Washtenaw Ave., ahead of the Wolverines’ home football game against Notre Dame. Kick off to the Mudbowl is 11:30, and they are not messing around.
