5 Ways to Spend Less at a Bar
Times are tough, but there are ways around spending a fortune at the bar.
Time magazine posted a list of ways to save money when you're at a bar. And with some of them, you don't even have to drink less. A few of these are kind of obvious, but here are the top five they came up with.
"1. Only bring cash out. It's the easiest way to stay on budget." How many times have you looked at your credit card statement the morning after going to the bar and contemplated punching yourself in the face? Leave the card at home and only bring cash that you can afford to spend. If you end up out of money, more than likely you'll have some liquid courage so you can flirt with the cute guy at the bar for a freebie!
"2. Take advantage of happy hours. There are a bunch of free apps that can help you find good ones nearby, like Happy Hour Finder, Scoutmob, and Cocktail Compass." Half-off drinks, yes please!
"3. Buy pitchers. If you and your friends each order your own beer, you're wasting money." Just make sure you're not the only one buying the pitchers...
"4. Pre-game. You can save ten bucks if you have a drink or two before you go out. And you can save even more if you eat first." Just be careful not to pre-game TOO hard and be the one who buys all of the full-priced pitchers with your credit card. You WILL punch yourself in the face the next morning.
"5. Have a glass of water between drinks. It saves money, you don't get as drunk, and your hangover isn't as bad." Everyone knows about this one but it's hard to do, you just have to keep reminding yourself.
If you keep these in mind when you're planning a night out, you'll be surprised at how much money you'll save over time.
