The overnight snow fall, while not big by any measure, has seen the two biggest school districts in Kalamazoo County to cancel classes.

Both Kalamazoo Public Schools and Portage Public Schools will not have classes on Thursday. Along with them will be Galesburg-Augusta, Gull Lake, Kalamazoo Christian, Climax-Scotts, Parchment,St. Augustine, Hackett, Schoocraft, and Vicksburg. A more complete list can be found here.

There aren't as many schools closed outside Kalamamzoo County, but a few of the bigger ones are Mattawan and Delton-Kellogg Schools.

While the amount of snowfall might not impressive, an approaching Alberta Clipper will certainly get your attention during the day on Thursday. Temperatures will drop to single digits in Southwest Michigan. Gusty northwest winds will result in wind chills heading well below zero. Then, Friday's high temperature will only be in the upper teens.

Still, this year's winter remains a mild one by comparison to even last year's. This is only the first snow day for Kalamazoo Public Schools.
