It's summer and camping is top-of-mind for many people and families this year. But, if you are not the real outdoors type you're wondering what is so special about sleeping in a tent, on the ground, and all that goes with camping.

I have to admit that my wife Susie and I are not campers. But for many friends who do love it, Michigan is blessed with a lot of desirable and sought after campgrounds.

To top that, Michigan is also home to two top 10 campgrounds in the entire Midwest!

Campers wrote one the Dyrt website about Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising:

“Great hike. First backpacking trip with my youngest son. We hiked around Beaver lake and along Lake Superior. We camped at Lowney crip and Beaver Creek. Enjoyed both sites. Of course Beaver Creek provide the better views sitting above Lake Superior.” — Robert S

“Backpacking Pictured Rocks was amazing! The views were breathtaking! The sites were very nice with so much space. … Put this on your bucket list for sure!.” — Krissy M

As for Northern Exposure Campground in Mesick, campers had this to say on the Dyrt:

“Great Campground. First time going there was amazing. Staff was friendly. Campground was quiet and everyone who was around us was super nice and friendly.” — Robert C

“My HAPPY place. Best place to relax for a week!” — K

There are so many other fabulous places to camp in Michigan. You can't forget Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Paradise, or the Sleeping Bear Dunes in Empire to name a couple.

Happy camping!
