The latest Facebook Messenger scam is an easy one to fall for.  Have you received this message?

I just received this message from my my mom the other day,

Hi....I actually got another friend request from you yesterday...which I ignored so you may want to check your account. Hold your finger on the message until the forward button appears...then hit forward and all the people you want to forward too....I had to do the people individually. Good Luck!

I immediately knew this message wasn't legit because that's not how my mother talks.  The clever thing about this type of scam is that it pretends to be a message warning you of a scam.  That makes most people jump into action which leads to your facebook getting hacked.

Here's what you should do if you get this message.

  1.   Do NOT respond
  2.   Search yourself on Facebook in case there is a cloned account
  3.   Delete the message
  4.   Change your password

Some say this message is just a hoax and others say it's a phishing message.  Better safe than sorry.

Circling back to #2 (Search yourself on Facebook in case there is a cloned account,) if you do find a clone account it is important that you report that account to Facebook immediately.

You do so by going to the fake profile and clicking the "More" button on mobile messenger or the "..." option right beside the messenger button on your computer.  That will bring up a menu like what you see below.

Cloning is a big problem on Facebook and you should take it seriously.  Beware of clicking any links on Facebook or in messenger unless you are absolutely sure the link is safe.

Happy Facebooking.
