Giovanni Ricci is proof that you don't have to play for a big time, powerhouse conference to get noticed. Ricci has been named a semi-finalist for the John Mackey Award, honoring the best Tight End in college football this season. Teammate RB LeVante Bell has been named a semilfinalist for the Doak Walker Award, given to the best running back in college football.

Going into the bye week, last week, Bellamy was "leading the country in rushing touchdowns with 21, total points scored with 126 and total touchdowns scored with 21. He stands fourth nationally in points per game (11.5), sixth in total rushing yards (1,284) and eighth in rushing yards per game (116.7).

As the tight end position has evolved during this decade, Ricci is a prime example of how big a part of the offense the position has become. WMU Sport Information says "Among tight ends nationally, Ricci enters this week tied for the lead in receiving touchdowns with eight, tied for third in receptions with 45 and third in receiving yards with 611."
