Maybe sportscaster Dan Patrick's summary of Corey Davis is a bit strong, saying he is "going to go up, or go down as one of the bigger busts", in NFL Draft history, but Indications are, as ESPN is reporting, the Tennessee Titans will not pick up Davis' fifth year option on his rookie contract.

Davis is part of a suspect group from the top of the 2017 NFL Draft. Only top pick Myles Garrett is considered a star. Picks two through five have been deemed failures, led by Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. the second pick, whose fifth year option was officially declined this weekend.

It's no consolation that most of the highly drafted wide receivers have disappointed, while mid round picks like the Detroit Lions' Kenny Golladay have excelled. What really hurts in Chicago is that Patrick Mahomes, especially, and DeShaun Watson have become stars.

Some of the disappointing numbers can be attributed to the failure of overall 2015 #2 pick Marcus Mariota, who was released by the Titans earlier this off season, but Davis, who came into the league with a foot injury that also cut into his rookie season, has only six career touchdown receptions in his three seasons, and has failed to have a season with one thousand yards in receptions. While those numbers would be adequate for a third receiver, David comes with an expensive price tag as a top five pick.
