Dunkin' is closing 800 donut shops across the country. We're hoping the two Kalamazoo coffee shops are not on the list so we can still get a caramel macchiato.

We've seen a lot of business closings this year. Brann's Steakhouse in Portage may have been the first in March, and Theo & Stacy's on S Westnege is one of the latest businesses that will not reopen after a lengthy shutdown to try to contain the Coronavirus pandemic. From restaurants like BraVo!Moe's Southwest Grill on Stadium Drive, Ruby Tuesday in Battle Creek to clothing stores like Men's Wearhouse, Jos A Banks and Catherine's to M-89 Bar & Grill in Otsego, things have been tough.

Dunkin' Donuts (now known as Dunkin') is the latest national brand to downsize. CNN reports they will close 800 locations across the country. That number is about 8% of the company's coffee shops, and many of the projected closures will be counters inside Speedway gas stations. Kalamzoo has two stand-alone stores, one at S Westnedge and Whites, and the other on 9th Street in Oshtemo. Cross your fingers that they remain open and you can still get your caffeine infusion via flavored coffee, cappuccino, espresso, macchiato, chai, latte, Americano, tea or hot chocolate.

Maybe now the guy who has to get up early to make the donuts can finally get some sleep.
