Two Michigan Beaches have been shut down for high bacteria levels while three other beaches are on contamination advisories after recent tests. The Michiana Village and Lions Park beaches located along Lake Michigan have been under contamination advisory due to the high bacteria levels since this Tuesday. Saginaw Bay’s Whites Beach went under contamination advisory last week on June 5 according to Freep. A toxicologist for the DEQ's Water Resources Division, Shannon Briggs, explained how every local health department collects water samples at least once a week and if the E. Coli level exceeds 300 organisms per 100 mL of water, that's when the determination is made for the health department to issue an advisory or closure.
