It is that time of year again! Flu Shot SeasonThe best time of year to get your annual flu shot is October, are you ready? I get mine every year, and to be honest, facing the winter months without the vaccine would bother me. Many people don't really see the why to get the flu shot, so here are 10 reasons why you should.

1. You will save money

When you come down sick so does your wallet. If you opt to head to the doctor, you will have a co-pay, then off to the drug store to fill your prescriptions. Not to mention tissues, over the counter drugs, and items necessary to concoct Grandmas home remedy.

2. You Won't Lose Time At Work

No matter what, taking a sick day stinks. For some of us, we have to pull it out of our vacation time, for others it is worse. For many years I was an hourly worker and you know what that means...if you don't work you don't get paid.

3. It Could Save A Life

We forget in this day and age that the flu is deadly, and the life you save could be your own. Now if you are not concerned about your own well-being, think of those you put at risk if you get sick. The young and old may not survive a bout with the flu, and who wants to be the one that exposed them to the virus.

4. You Will Cut Your Risk Of Getting The Flu In Half

I don't know about you but I hate being sick...the chills, the body aches, the sweats, the headache, nausea, I could go on and on. Having the flu is the worst, why wouldn't you try to avoid it buy getting vaccinated, 50/50 are okay odds.

5. It Might Spare You a Heart Attack

Seriously! This is true, I read it in Men's Journal. The article stated..."A study published in JAMA last October found that adults who’d gotten a flu shot were 36 percent less likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke within the next year than those who weren’t vaccinated " Now, that is a positive side effect!

6. No One Wants To Be Around A Sick Person

It's true, no matter how much you love someone, when they are feverish and caoughing up a lung, you don't want to be near them. Spare you loved ones, family, friends, and  co-workers being around you when you are sick.

7. It Only Hurts For A Second

To use the excuse that the shot hurts, is just silly. Yes, there is a sharp pinch and sometimes the day after your arm hurts, but you can handle it. Grin and bear the stab, then drink a lot of water afterwards to keep your muscles hydrated so you won't ache (or at least as much). Also, now there is an option to have the nasal mist and that doesn't hurt at all.

8. Many Times It's Free (or really cheap)

If this shot keeps you and the people around you healthy, saves you time and money, why not? Most Health Insurance Companies cover the cost of the vaccine, you can give them a call and find out.

9. All The Cool Kids Are Doing It

I am not really sure about that one, it was just something my Mother always said...

10. Take Care of Yourself

You are the greatest thing to ever happen to you, so make sure you protect your health.
