Three third period goals in the span of less than two minutes carried the Western Michigan Broncos to a crucial 5-3 victory of Minnesota-Duluth, Friday night at Lawson Ice Arena.

The high intensity game went back and forth from the start, with UMD scoring first, and then the Broncos scoring twice to take the lead early in the second period. The Bulldogs then scored twice to take the lead heading into the third period.

Then Austin Rueschhoff blasted a puck past Bulldog goalie Hunter Shepard to tie the game at three. Then almost immediately afterward, Western's captain, Hugh McGing tallied the game winner, after a perfect Cam Lee fake allowed McGing to go in alone on Shepard. Freshman Jason Polin sealed the game with a goal a minute later.

The win leaves WMU three points (one regulation time victory) behind UMD in the NCHC standings with just a few weeks left in the season.

The two teams will play again tonight at Lawson. No national TV, but standing room tickets are available.
