Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the area of Douglas Avenue and West North Street regarding several calls of shots fired.

A 22 year old Battle Creek man has died after being shot and a suspect is still at large.

Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies originally went to the Pavilion Estates Mobile Home Park in Pavilion Township around noon Wednesday to talk with a couple parked in a vehicle, after the owner of a trailer said the two had been squatting on his property. When deputies approached, they say the man got out of the car and pulled out a gun, firing one shot into the air.

The Battle Creek Public Schools say Thursday morning that authorities in Springfield let them know there was an active shooter situation in the area of Valley View Elementary and Springfield Middle School; as a result, the district made the call to cancel classes.
