I was one of those lucky kids. My childhood was fun. Since this was Chicago, the Lake (Michigan) was downtown. And we had two amusement parks, one in the heart of the city (the legendary Riverview, on the northwest side) and Kiddieland was just to the west, in Melrose Park.

The history of streetcar service in Kalamazoo began in 1885, first with horse drawn streetcars and then the city electrified the service in 1893 until 1932.

Today, we're remembering that time a kind-hearted manager at Battle Creek's Steve's Pizza drove 450 miles to deliver a very special pizza.

So the question we posted on Facebook for you was "I'm old enough to remember _____ in Kalamazoo. And boy, did you respond. Nearly 250 responses in just about 48 hours, bringing back memories of businesses and bars and everything in between.

Nothing like some old photos to bring back a flood of memories. The Vanished Kalamazoo Facebook page was treated to a walk down memory lane by Kalamazoo resident Keith Howard who shared these great photos of Boogie Records from the early 1980s.
