New WMU Housing Project With ‘Wow’ Factor Named Arcadia Flats
The Western Michigan University Board of Trustees officially named a new apartment-style housing project for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students Arcadia Flats.
Arcadia Flats is scheduled to open in the fall of 2020.
In a 2017 University release, it said "The South Neighborhood is highly visible from the adjacent Stadium Drive. That fact offers the University the opportunity to turn the area into a state-of-the-art campus gateway that offers a "Wow" factor along what WMU President Edward Montgomery recently noted is "the longest contiguous face of the campus."
Arcadia Flats, whose name was chosen for the nearby Arcadia River, will have 197 units, accommodating 353 residents. The school says, "the primary unit layout in Arcadia Flats consists of efficient living units with long, rectangular floor plans on a single level. All units (will) have a kitchen, bathroom and living area and can be studio or two-bedroom layouts. Two-bedroom units house two or four occupants per unit. There are also six loft style units, with a second-level lofted bedroom."
Arcadia Flats is the first phase to a larger plan that will see the building of a new Student Center.
