This isn't exactly stunning news or anything. And Ryan Hurd is a pretty big name in the Country music world, as was his wife, Maren Morris, until she crossed over to pop music. But just this weekend, while in self imposed isolation, I found out Hurd is a Kalamazoo boy.

He grew up here, and graduated from Heritage Academy in 2005.

Hurd told WWMT in an interview a couple of years ago, "The cool part about West Michigan is, it straddles the line between country and rust belt. So growing up, I feel like there are a lot of things you can picture, and write about that are very relatable to everyone across the country."

Then it was off to Nashville and not only college but eventual success and stardom; first as a song writer, writing #1 country hits for Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum, and Luke Bryan. Song writing is also how he met wife Maren, writing a ballad for Tim McGraw. The two performed on the same bill at the State Theatre, and the couple also got engaged on a visit here.

Fast forward to 2020, and the couple just welcomed son Hayes Andrew Hurd.

And he seems to be excited about fatherhood, too.
