No matter where you go in Southwest Michigan, always drive safely and stay near the speed limit. Now I know that sounds a little irresponsible, but I think we can all admit that we have sped and do go over the speed limit on a regular basis.

The important thing is that we try to maintain the speed limit at all times because they are put into place to keep not only you but also people around you safe.

I would be guilty if I said I never sped, but there are some people who just have a leadfoot and can’t help but go way over the speed limit. That being said, certain areas in Southwest Michigan are known to be speed traps, or even just going a little over the speed limit can get you pulled over.

We asked people of Southwest Michigan where the biggest speed traps were. One of the responses we got on our Facebook post said Richland, near Kalamazoo, is probably one of the biggest speed traps in the area.

Richland, they don’t care. If you’re going to over, you’ll get pulled over. If you stop and roll, you’ll get pulled over. If you don’t use your turn signal, you’ll get pulled over. Going over the white line, yep, pulled over again. They pulled over my dad for going over the white line while he was just trying to give the cop some room and he ended up getting a warning because of it.

That does sound a little extreme, but there’s nobody who can legitimately verify that that happened. Nevertheless, here are what people in Southwest Michigan say are the biggest speed traps in the area:
