One of the most gorgeous seasons in Michigan, and arguably the most fitting, is the autumn season. Every year, people get ready as summer starts winding down and prepare for the season of harvest and the changing of colors in our leaves.

The times at which the leaves change color and where it all begins depend on your geographical location within the state, between the Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula.

You could also sometimes be affected by the previous winter, but this year, we may have a good idea of when the leaves will start changing their colors. Michigan storm chasers are beginning to make their predictions, and at the current time, they have determined when they think the leaves will start changing colors.

You can see the map here, but the estimated dates the fall colors will begin show the Upper Peninsula changing between September 15 and the 25th, and the northern half of the Lower Peninsula changing between September 20 and the 28th.

The lower part of the Lower Peninsula is set to change between September 25 and October 2, but we will have to see how accurate these predictions are:

Attention fall lovers and leaf peepers! This map is for you! Leaves will BEGIN to turn color in the mid to late September timeframe! We've made a map color coded to our predictions at this current time. Stay tuned for updates! We will update this map every Monday!

Apparently, according to one Yooper in the comment section, the change is already taking place in the Upper Peninsula:

Leaves have already started changing color on a few trees here in the UP. Last year we didn't hit peak until the second week of October, which was two weeks later than predicted.

Heck, even someone here in Southwest Michigan, in Portage, is already seeing the color change:

I am already seeing some start to change in Portage. This morning's beautiful red sunset glistened gold on the trees.
