Kalamazoo Plans A New Gas Station At The Old Walgreens Site
The former Walgreens on the corner of Riverview Drive and Gull Road may become a 7-Eleven gas station soon.
The new Speedway gas station is being planned. It has been submitted for approval to the city of Kalamazoo, in the hopes that they’ll be able to eventually open up a roughly 5,000 square-foot building.

Back in 2025, the city denied the request for permits to sell alcohol there, but a new site plan has been sent for review by the city, which will take place on April 22.
They plan to have 22 parking spots, while planting trees and shrubs, and have six gas pumps, which would also include a 4853 square-foot convenience store that will have driveways to Riverview Drive and Gull Road with a canopy covering the gas pumps.
Why Virtue Cider Farm In Fennville Closed After Three Years
The Walgreens, which currently sits on the site, would eventually be demolished to make way for the new construction of the brand new Speedway building.
This report comes roughly a week after 7-Eleven announced that it would be shuttering around 645 standalone stores throughout the United States, while bolstering the number of Speedway and 7-Eleven combination stores.
7-Eleven stores just are not as profitable for the company anymore, and since Speedway and 7-Eleven are both part of the same company now, it makes more sense for them to close the standalone convenience stores and build new combination stores.
The area itself has seemed somewhat abandoned after, not only the Walgreens but the McDonalds next door to it, both closed within the last few years.

With all the traffic that has consumed Southwest Michigan, and Kalamazoo in general, it’s been harder to get to these restaurants in order to support them.
