The city of Holland has recently approved $11.3 million for its brand new ice-skating rink, which plans to open this winter.

A recent report talked about how this new skating rink is going to provide 14,000 square ft. of ice path, pavilions, picnic areas, and restrooms at the window on the waterfront park in downtown Holland.

The city is also planning to partner with four school districts, which include Holland Public Schools, Holland Christian Schools, Black River Public School, and Vanderbilt Charter Academy for field trips and at-cost visits.

They are also planning to host an open skate in classes on how to skate there as well as a curling court. The one thing I will say is I hope they have a Zamboni, because the snow buildup can make the ice really choppy.

The cost of skate rentals and open skates, and all of the previously mentioned activities, will be arranged, but it’s an exciting development when it comes to the skating rink that was a dream come true for the late Frank Kraai, whose vision it was to see the skating rink come alive before his passing in July 2024.
