A Michigan Man Is Alive After Being Dead For 20 Minutes

A 20-year-old Michigan man was revived after being dead for a shocking 20 minutes.

Michael Truitt touched a live electric wire with a metal ladder while working with his stepdad in Livonia.  It sounded like a scene out of the old NBC show 'ER' as the homeowner calls 911 according to NYpost.com,

...the homeowner called 911 and started CPR. It took about four minutes for paramedics to arrive and they attempted to revive him with the defibrillator while en route to the hospital, but he never regained a heartbeat in the ambulance.

After rushing Truitt to the ER at Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills, Dr. Angel Chudler shocked him with a defibrillator in hopes of reviving him.  No luck.  The Doctor then turned up the power on the defib and hit him again.  Boom!  He was back according to Beaumont.org,

“When he became conscious again, he was like The Hulk, grabbing the railings and shaking the bed with huge strength. It took the entire care team to hold Michael,” Beaumont clinical nurse Yasmeen Bachir, RN, said. “I guess every superhero has to die at least once.”

If you're thinking that 20 minutes is a long time to be dead before being revived by CPR or a defibrillator, you're right.

Barbara Smith, RN, director, Trauma Services, Beaumont, Farmington Hills, added, “In less than five minutes, brain cells start to die from lack of oxygen. Michael’s resuscitation is miraculous. He did not lose any brain function. It’s a testament to the importance of immediate and continuous CPR to move oxygenated blood to the brain.”

Michael was lucky enough to end up with only injured toes.  More specifically, his big toes.  They were burned from the inside because that is where the high voltage exited his body.
