Buchanan was named after former U.S. Senator and the 15th President of the United States, James Buchanan according to the Berrien County Genealogical Society.

This by far received the most mentions on Facebook as well as ranking #2 on TripAdvisor's "Things to Do in Buchanan" list.  One of the largest motocross tracks in the Midwest, Wikipedia says that RedBud MX is known for "the best dirt on earth."
