Beer, Parades, Hundreds of breweries, pub crawls and did I mention beer? What is it that makes Michiganders rowdy on St. Patrick's day?

In a list released by Candystore.com, They ranked how rowdy states get from 1 to 4 stars. Michigan received for stars and the commented,

Between Detroit, Traverse City, and Ann Arbor, it’s hard to pick a destination to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in style. We’ll make it easier for you by divulging that the Detroit St. Paddy’s Parade is the most kickass. This year, the parade is celebrating its 59th year of marching. That’s because the fun continues long after the parade ends. Check out the local bars for a St. Paddy’s pub crawl and for Irish food and drink specials that will make you feel like you’ve found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

They seem to be basing this mainly on Detroit and I think I would agree. Kalamazoo is much more relaxed and laid back. I'm not saying we don't have fun, we do. We have our bars, our parades and our own special events like the 5k pub run.

Why are we rowdy? well let's look at it like this. We are nearing the end of winter, our only holiday so far has been Valentines day and we are nearing the end of lent. We are tired of being stuck indoors or running out in the cold. We want to let loose and have a great time and what better time then on St Patrick's day.
