One of Michigan’s Biggest Department Stores Closing Major Location
It seems like every time you turn around, another store announces that it is closing in what is usually a shopping mall. The bad news continues as Michigan is about to lose another major department store in one of its major locations.
Malls continue to close down in our state, with the most recent one being the closure of Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights. We can’t really expect to survive if stores are going to continue to close. Unfortunately, until these empty businesses can be sold off to be turned into innovative properties or something unique, I worry that malls could eventually become a thing of the past.
The newest closure to strike is the Macy’s in the Traverse City Mall, the Grand Traverse Mall. Traverse City Ticker claims out according to local sources employees were told early Wednesday morning that sometime this winter the Macy’s would be shutting down.
This is apparently something that has been rumored for a while now, as their Facebook post filled with comments from people who are not too surprised:
Sad, but not surprised at all! It is a bummer though.. I miss the days of having a few stores like this to actually be able to go in to browse and try things on. My mom and I liked to go there... though the selection in the last few years has definitely gone down. I don’t care for Kohl’s or JCPenny’s. I think I am in that age bracket where I remember mall shopping and all the excitement around it, and feel sad to see it going away. -Rachel K.
Do you think this issue will continue to happen across the state, leading to the downfall of our malls?
