Summer has arrived in Michigan, now it's time for campfires and fun! Here are 5 things you need to know when building a campfire!

Growing up, summer was filled with playing outside, heading to the family cottage and laughter. Also included in was great bonfires that included s'mores! So many memories have been made at a campfire, and here are the 5 things you need to know when building the fire.

Safety is the most important thing when dealing with fire so here are the 5 things you need to know when getting ready to make s'mores...

  1.  Place rocks around the outside.
  2.  Dig a hole six inches deep and two feet across to place the fire and pile the dirt around the fire pit.
  3. Clear a circle ten feet wide of grass and leaves, making it only dirt around the fire.
  4. Keep the shovel close
  5. A bucket of water

And of course have fun!

Remember...

The website for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources clearly states...

"Always follow safe campfire practices to prevent them from starting a wildfire. Remember, you can be held responsible for the cost of putting the fire out if it escapes and for any property damage."

Save a s'more for me, and have fun!
