Kalamazoo Central Family and Consumer Science teacher, Lisa Boulding, who established a student leadership and community service program and has guided its growth to more than 100 members in five years, has been honored with an Excellence in Education award from the Michigan Lottery.
An anonymous $250,000 gift to Western Michigan University will provide annual financial support for 11 Kalamazoo Promise students who hope to become educators and could enhance the diversity of Kalamazoo Public Schools' teaching staff.
The Kalamazoo Promise began ten years ago with anonymous donations funding full- tuition scholarships for Kalamazoo Public Schools graduates to any community college or, public university in Michigan. In it's first decade, The Promise has funded 4,000 scholarships.This year, some select private institutions were added to the options for KPS students.
