What was set to be an emotional and triumphantly important spectacle for the citizens of Oakland County and Detroit ended up being a complete dud.

At least 1,000 people packed a local parking lot and nearby roads to witness the toppling of the Pontiac Silverdome yesterday, which was set to happen at 8:30 A.M. We heard a loud band and then smoke, followed by nothing.

Apparently local news teams spoke to the foreman of the demolition saying that everything had gone the way it should have but the structure was just too well built, and now gravity will have to take care of the rest.

What a complete waste of time. I wish they would at some point made mention that there was a possibility that something like this would have happened. I would have been curled up in my bed, dreaming about a better explosion. While out there, there was a guy holding a sign that read "Hoffa Not Here." Neither was there anything interesting.

As expected, the internet blew up with memes and jokes. I had to even get mine in...

So naturally one could take the easy route and say, "well this is one final disappointment from the Silverdome," but that's too easy. No, rather I'm just gonna count my loses and remember all the joys the building brought to us all. Remembering the time I got to see a World Cup match in the 90's, the fact that one night it held 93,173 people which was a record held for 12 years. But I won't be holding my breath for its collapse, because I know that thing's coming down in the middle of the night when nobody is watching. R.I.P Silverdome.
