The Michigan Department of Transportation has produced at new episode oft their "Reality Check" series, that it hopes to dispel myths about road related items.

The latest video is for what M-DOT says is this myth:

"Myth: Our roads and bridges need repair, so why is MDOT wasting money replacing perfectly good signs?"

M-DOT says many signs look normal during daytime hours, but they are hard to read at night and that's when most accidents happen. So the goal is to make sign easier to see and read at night.

"A sign that may look 'perfectly good' during the day isn’t always visible at night, and that's a safety concern," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "Time, weather, and other factors degrade our road signs over the years, which is why we replace them every 15 to 20 years."
