There are many different places in Michigan that people love to frequently visit, but what about the places that people seldom visit? Thinking about all the different places that technically lie within the state of Michigan, are there places that have never been visited before?

There are definitely some places that are seldom visited, like the Isle Royale National Park. That’s a remote National park within a lot of wilderness on Lake Superior, which is one of the least visited national parks in the country.

The main reason is that it’s only accessible by a boat or a seaplane, and it’s got a very rugged terrain on the main island. So, where are some places in Michigan that have never been visited?

It’s hard to say exactly what places nobody has ever been to, because that would require omniscience and would be almost impossible to confirm. But there are some very remote places and less-traveled areas in Michigan that we can assume people have never been to.

Here are some places within Michigan that we can comfortably say most likely nobody has ever been to:

Gull Islands

These are located to the north east of Isle Royale and contain tons of tiny islands that are very isolated. Given the terrain, it’s possible that some of these islands have never actually been stepped on.

Remote Islands in the Upper Peninsula

There are more than 11,000 inland lakes, many of which have unnamed islands. Some of those have possibly never been visited before.

Deep Wilderness Areas

The U.P. has so many woods and is so rural that some say it’s one of the most isolated places in the United States. Some areas in the mountains in the Kewanna Peninsula Iron Range most likely contain no history of humans setting foot there.

The Deepest Part of Lake Superior

Bottoming out at 1332 feet deep, and given the conditions of the lake, is very likely that nobody has ever been to the deepest point of the lake bed.

Michigan Caves

Michigan has a large cave system, like the Hendrie River Water Cave. Much of that cave system has yet to be explored, and we know that there are plenty of caves that are still out there that we have yet to ever set foot in.
