There is some great news to report, as it turns out that Chili’s in Portage will not be torn down, and will, in fact, continue to serve Southwest Michigan.

With the latest news that Kroger purchased the strip mall, which once held JoAnn Fabrics, Chuck E. Cheese‘s, and Big Lots, there were also reports coming out that Kroger also purchased the building that Chili’s currently resides in.

The reports were that it would be torn down and either permanently closed or relocated to make way for a new Kroger gas station.

As it turns out, those reports have proven to be false, as the manager of the Communications and PR department for Chili's, Jake Young, reached out to us to inform us that they have no plans of tearing down that location or moving it:

Chili’s in Portage isn’t going anywhere! We appreciate the support over the last few days, but the rumors of our restaurant being torn down are untrue. We’re excited to continue serving unbeatable value and hospitality - including our iconic Triple Dipper made for epic cheese pulls - to the people of Portage.

This is great news for people who have enjoyed going to Chili’s off Westnedge in Portage for years now.

As far as what is actually included in the deal that Kroger made to purchase the land in the area, we will have to wait until official announcements are made, and hope no other businesses will be affected by their return to Portage. It is still very possible they'll be installing a gas station.
