Mariah Carey talks about the time she met Derek Jeter in her new book.  But her Kalamazoo reference was questionable.

Mariah's memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, was released on September 29th of this year.  Fans are loving this book.  However, this is one moment that left me scratching my head from the book.

Carey dated Jeter for a short time in 1998.  Mariah talks about the night she met Kalamazoo native and professional baseball star Derek Jeter and his friend.  Carey says when the two men sat across from her at the same table at a dinner party she wondered "who are these guys" then went back to "more interesting dinner guests."  The quote from the book that made me stop on a dime was,

His Armani suit didn't cover up the Kalamazoo in him.  He didn't have the New York slick vibe that I had become so accustomed to.

Carey goes on to explain that she's not trying to throw shade and then made fun of his shoes and called Jeter and his friend "rather pedestrian."

Some fans argue that she wasn't slamming Kalamazoo in the book.  They are of the opinion that she found it charming that he couldn't "cover up the Kalamazoo in him."  She didn't go on to date him after all.
