These Michigan Hotels Are Among Michelin’s Best In America
Over the last 10 years or so, there has been a debate about whether staying in a hotel room or an Airbnb is the better option when traveling. Some people thoroughly enjoy the freedom of being in an Airbnb by themselves and being able to come and go with no real restrictions. Meanwhile, other people like the proximity to the city that hotels offer and most of the time they have security and insurances involved. At the end of the day, the price points are too different, so it comes down to personal preference.
Another thing that is often debated is which hotels are better than others. Of course, there are levels to the hotel game which are clearly defined by price and availability. With that being said, a lot of opinions about which hotel or hotel brand is best comes from personal experiences and preferences unless we're talking Michelin rankings. Michigan has a handful of restaurants that have Michelin Stars but now these two hotels will join their ranks.
Most people know the Michelin name for their rankings and expertise in the restaurant industry, now they have started to award hotels with Michelin Keys for being the most outstanding hotels. The first list of Michelin Keys was handed to hotels in April, now they have updated the list for the first time and two hotels here in the Mitten state have been added to the list.
Both the Shinola Hotel and Daxton Hotel which are located in Detroit and Birmingham respectively earned a Michelin Key. Here's what the Michelin Guide had to say about each of the hotels:
Besides stylish hotel rooms that nod to the city's manufacturing roots, the Shinola Hotel is notable for social spaces, which include its "16,000 square feet of dining, entertainment, and retail space include San Morello, an Italian restaurant, along with a cocktail bar (Evening Bar), a beer hall (The Brakeman), and two fast-casual restaurants, Penny Red's and Mister Dips.
The hotel is fitted with black marble, dark wood, colorful paintings and sculptures in the lobby, and the rooms "display echoes of multiple eras of architectural history, from Victorian ornament to Art Deco and Modernist gestures and beyond
Michigan continues to land in the top of the country for many things involving hotels, travel, food, nature and many other metrics. What isn't there to love about Michigan, am I right?
