Summer has finally arrived in Michigan, and now it's time for a backyard bash

Summer in Michigan is outside at picnic tables, lounging by the pool or relaxing on the deck. It is also the best time for an outdoor party! Here are 10 tips to make your outdoor party a success!

A cooler stocked with water - Summer heat and dehydration can sneak up on people. Having cold water available at all times for guests is a nice thought.

Use flowers from your garden to decorate  - Save your money and use what you have in your yard for decorations rather then purchase something. Plus, your flowers already match your party area!

Comfy seating is must - If you don't have comfortable chairs or use a picnic table as your main seating, grab some pillows from inside for guest to enjoy.

A basket full of bug repellent and sunscreen - Sometimes when heading over to a party a guest may forget their outdoor essentials. Having extra's set out for them to use is very gracious.

Keep Cold Foods Cold - To keep dairy-based dips and other perishable dishes chilled. Fill a large bowl with ice, and sprinkle it with kosher salt. Place the dish on top and it will stay colder for longer

A basket full of extra beach towels - If you have a pool, extra towels for guests is a must. Their towels will be damp if they are getting in and out of the pool and a fresh one is a nice touch from the host.

Plug in some fans. Mosquitoes are weak flyers, so even if a fan is set on low, it can create enough airflow to keep them away.

Use a number of speakers for your music - Instead of using only 2 speakers to play your tunes, use 4 to 6 speakers. You can keep the volume lower so people can talk, plus the music will play throughout the yard.

Citronella candles - They will not only will help to keep the bugs away, they will add a beautiful glow in your yard.

Have a plan B in case it rains - We all know how quickly Michigan weather can change, so having the house tidy is a must if the party has to move indoors.

Most importantly, as with any party, just have a great time with friends and family!

Enjoy the laughter!
